Spring Time Outdoor Adventure Activities

Well, the moment we have all been waiting for is finally here. Spring time. It’s been a long time coming this year, but better late than never.

Trees are budding, grass is growing, flowers are blooming, the woods are coming alive, and that means one thing. It’s time for the Springtime Outdoor Adventures to begin. The kids are ready to get outside, everyone is ready to be outside, cabin fever has been burning and we all need some sunshine and wind in the hair.

Today, let’s talk about a few Spring Time Outdoor Activities you can do with the family. These are all kid-friendly and are sure to break the screentime habits that are hanging on from the long winter.

Spring Time Outdoor Activities for the Family.

Let’s get into it.

Go Fishing

When spring arrives it’s time to break out the old dusty fishing poles. There is probably nothing more classical family kid time that turns into craziness and great memories than fishing together with your family, especially kids. It’s usually hectic and filled with fraught but it’s hard to beat and the kids will come home exhausted and everyone will sleep well!

Fishing gear is cheap and can be picked up at Walmart on Amazon, even for those who are not normal fisher-people, it doesn’t take much to buy a pole, some hooks, and some worms. Every town has a pond, river, or lake. Get going!

Go Hiking

I’m always surprised at how empty the woods and hiking trails stay in the spring, yet there is no better time to get out into nature. Life is coming into everything, greenery is popping, flowers are blooming, and birds are singing. It’s just the perfect time to get outside, beat all the crowds, and have the trails all to yourself.

Typically the forest undergrowth has not grown in so you can see farther than normal. Explore a state park, find a county park, or go somewhere brand new that you have never been before. Half the fun and adventure is seeing new things and new places. Explore. It’s easy to rekindle that spirit of adventure … it never goes away, just gets buried.

Go for a Picnic at a State or County Park.

If you ever go to an antique shop and flip through an old book or magazine, what will you see? Probably one of those classical old Americana scenes of the family having a picnic under a tree with the sun shining. There is something to be said for that.

Tell me, when was the last time you spread a blanket underneath a tree or on a park bench, threw a bag or cooler full of food on it, and everyone got a plate and digs in? It’s not just for the movies, it can happen in real life too just in case you were wondering.

I can tell you the food will taste better than it ever has, it’s a special experience you can snap some photos and make all your friends jealous on Instagram, and you won’t be faking it!

Explore the River

I tell you what, there are few things kids love more than running water, mud, rocks, sticks, and the like. Even if they are a little glowing-eyed, addicted to screen kids, it won’t take that long to wear off. There is something to be said for finding the nearest River or Lake and simply going for some exploring time.

There is some fun there for everyone, no matter the age. It’s new territory, sand bars to explore, and treasures all washed up on the shore. You will find something fun, I promise. This is a free and simple outdoor activity that any family can do, I can promise you, that you will pull out your phone and snap some pictures. Make memories, go to the River.

Plant a Garden

All you have to do is drive to the Home Depot, pick up some cheap seeds from wherever, but some cheap plastic pots and you are on the way to having a mini garden. It’s good for kids to have chores, to weed, to be invested in something that doesn’t have a screen.

Planting a garden with your family is one of the best ways to ensure regular time together outside. It needs tending, watering, and cultivating. Everyone can feel proud and have some skin in the game, a great way to come together as a family.

Just get outside.

It’s sprint time. You can get outside, don’t let that weekend slip away from you never to return. You will be back to the work grind before you know it. Make some memories, and do something you would not normally do. Expand your horizons. Explore new places you have never been to that are only a few miles from your house.

All it takes is a little creativity. Get on Google Maps, search “Parks Near Me” and pick the first one that comes up you’ve never been to. See what the closest State Park is, and find a River or Lake near by. Spring has sprung, and so should you.
