Bushcraft and our Pioneer Past

If there is one thing we can say about the upper Midwest, it’s that we’ve had our fair share of Pinoeers come through and settle these fair lands. Unlike other parts of our beloved country that were settled hundreds of years earlier, it took those explorers some time to explore the extent of the Mississippi River and look upon those fair wooded hills with rolling plains running off into the distance.

In many parts of the upper Midwest, it wasn’t till the mid-1800s that settlers started to show up and build cabins on the rivers. Today, the Average Flatlander went to a well-known site near the confluence of two rivers to do some old-school Bushcraft. Cooking primitive bread and meat over the open bed of coals.

On the way, we discovered 1800s stoneware and ancient lock and keys. Enjoy!
