Taco Time on the River changed my Bushcraft Game.

It’s been a long week at work; kids have been driving you crazy, and the weather has not been too cold; what would you do? I will tell you what an Average Flatlander does. Call up a buddy and head for that river valley for some Bushcraft Taco Time.

As a boy who grew up as a River Rat in the Upper Midwest, I spend more days on a river bank than I have in a house most likely. Pretty much like a modern data Huck Finn, just dreaming those days away on a river, fishing, exploring, paddling, building fires … you know, the usual fare.

Now, 40 years later, not much has changed. I like to spend my free time on the river, even in the snow. Snow in the river valley is something special. You can trace the paths of the bobcats and deer; their trails in the snow worn well are hard to miss. It’s usually cold and quiet, except for a few eagles feasting on the remains of some bloody animal that the coyotes drug down.

Get that little fire going, and pull out the makings and trimmings for a taco; life is good. I tell you what, it will be the best taco you ever had.
